The Absecon Lighthouse is a coastal lighthouse located in the north end of Atlantic City, New Jersey, overlooking Absecon Inlet. At 171 feet (52 m) it is the tallest lighthouse in the state of New Jersey and is the third-tallest masonry lighthouse in the United States. Construction began in 1854, with the light first lit on January 15, 1857. The lighthouse was deactivated in 1933 and although the light still shines every night, it is no longer an active navigational aid. The lighthouse is open to public visitation and for a small donation one may climb to the watch room and external gallery. A re-creation of the keepers' quarters was opened in 2002 and serves as a museum and gift shop. The original oil house now contains a Fresnel lens exhibit. Along with school and group tours, the Absecon Lighthouse also offers an overnight program for Scouts, winter arts program for children and a wide variety of special events throughout the year.

It was designed by George Meade and still retains its original first-order fixed Fresnel lens. The lens is made of lead glass and weighs 12,800 pounds (5,800 kg)[4] As the light was fixed (non-flashing), it does not have a landward segment allowing visitors to look up in the lens where the keepers entered it for maintenance.

Jack E. Boucher conceived and oversaw the preservation of the lighthouse in 1964.

The lighthouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Historic American Buildings Survey, and the New Jersey Register of Historic Places.

We're All Ice Cream Castles In The Summertime

My daughter watched some videos of my buddy @tinybirdpress daughter silkscreening and decided she wanted to try it out. Its coming on my one year anniversary of starting @localsummerco and i wanted a print to commemorate- one being done in my own studio again. My daughter and i setup, mixed ink and printed these together together. She was psyched- i was proud. Shes 6 and starting to understand DIY. To her this was me, it will always be magic.

To the traveler, the tourist, the wayfarer, the backpacker, the globetrotter, the drifter, the passenger and the commuter- this ones for you. We're people. We come and go. We travel great distances everyday to go to work, to school or to go on a journey. While this can be quite isolating, we're never alone. While we can feel lost, we're still moving. We find 'our way' in many different things. Some of us find it in direction, some in a schedule, some in a companion, but, most of us find it in music. Take from this scene what you will, but, dont forget- without sound can this routine and world only feel lonely.

When is an address more than just a place? When it is the heart of something big. Trenton, NJ is a very special place. What is usually looked at as just a State Capital with a cool bridge is thriving hive of arts, culture and defiance. That sign on the bridge continues to hold true to this day, "Trenton makes, the world takes." But, today, what the world takes is not steel and wire, but, a cue on how to thrive, how to stand up for your home, and how to celebrate the rich history of your surroundings while always looking forward to the future. 1701 Calhoun Street will always be a memory to a lot of us. It will forever be remembered as City Gardens. It will forever be the soul of Trenton to many, while the heart of Trenton will forever remain the people themselves.

Our New Print On Demand Homegoods Site

We are very pleased to announce that you can now find printed homegoods from Local Summer Co. on the Society6 platform.  While our company is based around hand-silkscreened art pints on paper, we have gotten a lot of requests for other items.  Since we do not have the production means or volume to handle our own printables, we have joined the Society 6 platform to be able to offer additional printed Local Summer Co goods including phone cases, laptop cases and sleeves, shower curtains, beach towels, hand towels, bedding, pillows, clocks, mugs, rugs, leggings and much more.  While it's hard to put faith in another company to handle our artwork, as previous buyers of works on Society 6, we feel great about the quality of the itmes and the prints they offer and are psyched to give you the chance to buy some for your home.  Click on the image below to check out our page and see what we currently have to offer you.
